GillyCanCook – a Witty New Blog

Ok. Gulp, my first blog post.
I journal at home, but I’ve never shared those thoughts with anyone, much less the world. Yikes, here we go.

Today is Saturday, February 20th, 2021. 7 AM.
I am writing my first blog today on my new cooking/photography site. I named it GillyCanCook: simple snacks & elegant eats.

I am excited and nervous. I’m still putting the pieces together, creating ‘Pages’ and filling in recipes. Plus, I need to set up accounts for GillyCanCook with all of the social media outlets and a youtube channel – I’m building it all myself, so there is a big learning curve.

Yesterday, I felt a bit overwhelmed. I’m a professional film editor, and I’m used to working in a dark room at a computer with my director all day. It will be quite an adjustment to be on camera sometimes. I was taking a (socially-distant) walk with one of my best friends last week, and I said, “It’s going to be weird to have it be about me and talk about myself. Do you know what I mean?” And she said, “No, I have no idea what you’re talking about. I love talking about myself and things being about me.” I laughed so hard that I’m still laughing!
How different people are. We’ve been friends for 30 years, and I never knew that. Hilarious.

One of my favorite things to do on Sundays is pulling out cookbooks to plan a big meal and then go with my list to the farmer’s market to buy fresh ingredients. I love starting Mondays after a beautiful, healthy dinner on Sunday.

It would be fun to include whoever is reading in picking a dish or dessert. If you’ve got any thoughts, I’d love to hear them.
