Artistry and skill are the hallmarks of great editing and cooking. Inspired by a year in lockdown, this Hollywood film editor has become as passionate about cutting veggies as cutting films. The meals became the movie, the kitchen became the cutting room, the ingredients became the inspiration, and hopes for a culinary blockbuster – the happy ending.
Encouraged by friends who said, “Your recipes and photos are great. You should start a blog.” She decided to do just that. Building on her love of cooking and photography, Gillian launched her blog, Gilly Can Cook: Simple Snacks & Elegant Eats, in 2021 and continues to share her passion today.
The story goes that when Gillian was 8 years old, her mother suggested she cook dinner for her family of six. She chose her favorites: an intricate meal of lamb chops, baked potatoes, and Brussels sprouts. Her mother guided her through preparation, timing, and flavors, and to her mother’s surprise, everything was perfectly cooked and finished on time. That experience forever fueled Gillian’s love of good cooking and fine dining.
The ‘Gilly Can Cook: Simple Snacks & Elegant Eats’ mission statement is to guide your edible journey from simple snacks to elegant eats, featuring high-quality and organic ingredients. From vegan fare and fresh creations to comfort food and gourmet meals. Gilly’s slogan is that Cooking should be joyful, not stressful. “Food is fun, so let’s get cooking”!

Gillian Hutshing is best known as a highly acclaimed feature film editor in the Hollywood film industry. She is also the food photographer for Gilly Can Cook and the author of a children’s book titled Sparky the Wonderfish: A Story of How Love Creates Magic. Gillian is currently living and working in Los Angeles with her beloved tabby cat, Steve.
